Beginner Guitar Lessons

If you don’t want to be part of the mediocrity crowd and have visions of becoming excellent at the guitar — you should study this course. Aaron Isaac Tutoring provides individually tailored systems for learning, within a set curriculum, custom designed to take you from knowing absolutely nothing about the guitar, to having all of the tools to achieve your personal goal with this wonderfully versatile instrument. If you’re frustrated with yourself, or bored of middle-of-the-road thinking, I have built a way out and I want to show it to you.

You can achieve what you want to achieve! You just need (and have always needed) someone to understand how you learn!

Who Are These Lessons For?

  • Absolute beginners who have never touched a guitar before with visions of learning something to a high standard
  • People who have been told they have “commitment issues” and those who “never succeed” (You can succeed!)
  • Anybody who wants to learn the underpinning principles of guitar so that they can use that knowledge for styles they love
  • Those who want an official certification of excellence to show others (and themselves) that they achieved the goals they set out to achieve

What You’ll Learn:

Our beginner curriculum is designed to build a solid foundation, ensuring you learn correctly from day one. You will discover:

  • Module 1: Learning Your Instrument
    • Understanding the different parts of the guitar and how to communicate with other guitarists and your tutor.
    • Proper posture: how to sit and hold the guitar comfortably.
    • Hand position (to ensure you don’t injure yourself playing and to maximise dexterity)
    • Learning the order of the strings in “standard” tuning
    • Tuning the guitar
    • Understanding how to press a guitar string effectively to make a clean sound
    • Single string playing (to help you understand how the guitar is laid out)
      • This will include study on playing ‘notes’ (the single sound that comes when you resonate a string, ‘intervals’ (the spaces between notes)
    • Single string scales
    • Basic picking technique (alternative picking)
    • Playing to a metronome
  • Module 2: Applying your new knowledge
    • Multi string scales and what they mean
    • Chords based on those scales
    • Basic timing techniques for strumming patterns
    • Basic timing for some picking techniques
    • Applying all of this to a song of your choosing
    • How to read simple guitar chord charts (diagrams).
    • Introduction to guitar tablature (TABs) to learn melodies and riffs.
  • Module 3: Practice routine development:
    • Now that we have the fundamentals covered, we will need to start implementing this into a regular routine which is manageable for your timeframe
    • We will begin learning how to apply these techniques to different songs you like
  • Module 4: Introduction to our intermediate level guitar class
    • At this point you will be ready to progress to the next set of classes, but we want to make your transition smooth, so at the end of this class we have added an additional transitional introduction to the intermediate guitar.

Our Teaching Philosophy:

We believe learning guitar should be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Our approach is:

  • Patient but motivated: Everyone learns at their own pace, but many people don’t believe they can achieve and so don’t push forward. We want to get a good balance of both patience and making excellent progress.
  • Making “Hard” look easy: We take complex topics and make them very easy to understand – complimented with course materials to help you revise.
  • Engaging, informative, motivated: We build the foundations deeply before moving on to the other stuff – this way you can be very flexible in your playing and apply your knowledge to a whole range of things

What You’ll Need:

  • An acoustic or electric guitar
  • A guitar pick.
  • A guitar tuner (can be a physical tuner or a smartphone app).
  • A realisation that you can achieve anything you set your mind to

Course Content

Guitar Anatomy
This module will teach you the basic anatomy of the guitar, which is essential for communicating with tutors, other players and for understanding which bits do what on the guitar.

Scale Shapes & Major Chords
Scales on the guitar are more difficult to visualise that scales on the piano because they are not obviously linear. I.e. They don't appear in the same sequential way that keys on the piano appear. This module will help with finding your way around the fretboard, visualising chords, remembering scale shapes and learning how to apply this all to your playing. This module will help you see vast improvement in your playing very quickly if you apply yourself.
